Getting My Hustle On

posted Monday, 9 July 2007

You all know that I'm the last person on earth to actually try a hustling scheme.  The one time I tried...it actually worked.  My homie, the Master Hustler himself turned me on to Q100's promotion with T-Mobile last week.  As T-Mobile had a debut of it's new Wi-Fi phone, they were giving away free phones, home routers, and a telephone plan for a year.  Yes...it was all FREE, no strings attached.  The only "catch" is that you had to be one of the first 100 people in line and be wearing a bath robe when the store opened (slated for 8am).

Well, Master Hustler called me the night before, after scoping out the place, letting me know that there weren't many people in line and that he was going home to get his "supplies".  Of course, he was going to spend the night on the pavement to make sure he was one of the first 100.  Through the night, I called to check on him and I even got up a little earlier than usual for work.  I decided to call and see if it was worth going down there before heading to the office.  As there were still significantly less than 100, I went on over...nevermind that I forgot my bathrobe in my hurry to get out of the door.  When I got in line, some folks were getting a little excited because I didn't have a robe, so I got frustrated and went on to the office - this was at 7:20am.

Although I was a little disappointed, being as though I was number 80 when I left, I decided that this hustle was definitely not worth the headache.  About 2 hours later, Master Hustler called me exclaiming that for the past hour, they've been saying that they've had 10 slots left and wanted people to come down to the store, and that right after I left, they started giving bath robes to people who had forgotten theirs (go figure!).  After a minute of contemplating, I convinced one of my co-workers, The Co-Conspirator (we always leave work to do crazy things), to go with me down to the store.  I called one of my good friends that lives in Buckhead and told him that I needed to borrow 2 robes and that I was on the way.  Of course, I had to explain everything and promise to bring them back...lol.

After zooming the streets of Buckhead, we arrived only so that I could be the last person in line - number 100.  No, I didn't get champagne and streamers, but I did get a phone with a plan (a very generous one) and a T-Mobile at home router.  Needless to say, I'll be able to save some money on my current plan for a while, as I've reduced it to the bare minimum.  In addition, I won't look at the Master Hustler crazy the next time he tells me how I can save or make some quick cash, cause one of his hustles actually worked for me.

BTW...check out the Master Hustler's website My New Hustle to see some pictures as well as the details about the promotion.
